Why Uncle Phil & Aunt Vivian Matter…

Now since I be knowing stuff:

Because I am a product of a single family home, as well as one which happened to relocate twice while under the age of 14, I understand the importance of having some stability in place and know the value of having strong adult role models present while in the public school system.  I love me some Brooklyn, but Philly is where my heart lies. So I was shocked to hear about the planned 23 public school closings, 3000 layoffs in the school district, and the building of a $400 Million dollar prison…

Yes. $400,000,000 PRISON. Did I miss something? The fact that Governor Tom Corbett thinks it’s okay to build a spanking brand new prison while the public school system suffers is unfathomable. What are the priorities here?

I went to a Philadelphia public school for my 9th thru 12th grade years. It was a little ” East Side High” (Lean On Me, yall)/Not.  The fact that I made it out, no teen pregnancy, and went to college, was not only due to my mother raising me with some sense but also due to some awesome teachers who pushed me to excel. I can’t imagine attending school and noticing that there are barely administrators, guidance counselors, and classroom size ratios that are just too scary to deal with.

I am posting the link to a few articles that touch upon what’s happening in Philly.

Maybe sending your child to better zip code to receive a better education does matter and Aunt Vivian and Uncle Phil are the BOMB for letting their too-cool-for-school nephew crash for a few…
